ASG at a Glance

Why should I care about ASG or the elections you have?
While it isn’t always easy to see the change that ASG has made on campus, there’s a multitude of campus features that wouldn’t exist without ASG. Printing credit, wifi on the lakefill, and the CR/NC option during the COVID-19 Pandemic are examples of initiatives that ASG worked directly with the NU administration to make available to students. The students in ASG meet regularly with admin, from deans to Morty himself, to advocate for student needs. Additionally, the winners of ASG elections 100% affect which issues are prioritized, as each candidate must develop their own detailed platform.
How is ASG structured?
ASG’s main components are the Senate, committees, and the cabinet (a.k.a. the ASG executive board). You can learn more about how each component functions here.
What does ASG have to do with funding student groups?
Student groups receive funding through the ASG Student Activities Finances Committee (SAFC), which allocates money to SAFC-recognized student groups from a pool consisting of the Student Activities Fee, which every student can find on their tuition bill. To find out more information about the funding process, how to get SAFC recognized, and how to apply for ASG grants, click here.
How do I get involved in ASG?
Our formal recruiting process for the Senate and committee placement happens in the early fall. Applications for the ASG Cabinet open after the ASG Presidential Election in the winter. However, we are always looking for students with a variety of interests and skills to join ASG. Outside of the formal recruitment period, students can email asg-cos@u.northwestern.edu to find out how they can get involved throughout the year!
